2nd Swiss Chocolate Affair at Bodega

Following the success of last year’s Swiss Chocolate Affair, Bodega Restaurant proudly announces that the second edition will be running from Wednesday 8th August for one month. Executive Chef, Neil Norman, has created a decadent and enticing menu, specifically highlighting Felchlin, a Swiss, family owned, chocolate brand.

Felchlin produces a variety of mouth-watering products, from which a selection is being used for this year’s menu. These varieties include the dark, rich Arriba (72%), organic Bolivia (68%), creamy Mocaraibo (65%) and delicate white chocolate, Edelweiss (36%). Varying styles of chocolate are selected for each individual dish on the menu, ensuring perfect harmony between all the ingredients.

This year, Neil will be concentrating on creating an intriguing menu by combining elements of various ingredients with the smooth rich textures and tastes of the Felchlin products. He has found that different types of chocolate influence ingredients in varied ways. Unsweetemed, bitter chocolate tends to uplift rich meat and protein dishes, while white chocolate works well with lighter textures and flavours. Even though August can be a chilly month, Neil is giving the menu a Mediterranean flair, avoiding extremely heavy dishes, so that the flavours of the chocolate shine through. The menu includes Smoked Rainbow Trout Carpaccio, topped with a lemon, white chocolate and pomegranate molasses. Neil finds that the smokiness of the trout balances the sweetness of the white chocolate. Quail Ballotine with mushroom duxelle on a sauce of dark Arriba chocolate allows the richness of the quail to be enhanced by the dark chocolate. A traditional Mexican Mole sauce accompanies our Slow-roasted Karoo Springbok giving this exotic dish a truly “South African twist”.

Naturally all dishes are recommended with a glass of our renowned Donatus, Dornier and Cocoa Hill wines, which pair gracefully with these rich dishes to create an experience to remember.

The menu will run throughout August, beginning on Wednesday 8th, and will be available daily for lunch from 12 – 4pm, in conjunction with our Winter Black Board menu.

Prices for the Chocolate Affair menu will be R190 pp for two courses and R250 for three courses. Paired Dornier wines are recommended with each dish, but not included in the price.
